Mechanism of action for amfetamines

 

Amfetamines increase synaptic DA levels by reversing the vesicular monoamine transporter 2, thus releasing cytosolic catecholamines.

 

MDMA interacts with many different receptors, including 5-HT2, M1 muscarinic, H1 histamine and sigma σ receptors, and influences the activity of enzymes involved in monoamine synthesis and inactivation.
