Effects of benzodiazepines

 

Pharmacological effects of BDZs include:

• reduced anxiety and aggression

• sedation

• reduced muscle tone and co-ordination

• anticonvulsant effects

• anterograde amnesia

 

Overdose with BDZs results in a deep sleep, however, if it is combined with alcohol it can cause respiratory depression.
