Group interventions

Group interventions can deliver care and support regarding reducing cravings, the risk of relapse and abstinence maintenance to a larger number of patients; however, they are not popular with all patients, so group tend to be small and introduced as taster sessions, whilst ensuring individual therapy is still an option.

Benefits can include reducing stigma, providing good examples and mutual help while building self-respect, learning to socialize and controlling impulsiveness.

Examples include Narcotics Anonymous, a non- profit organisation that operates worldwide in order to provide group support to recovering addicts via its 12 step principles and Marijuana Anonymous UK.
