Treatment of cocaine overdose
The patient can be provided with oxygen if they are unconsious and a saline solution can be given IV if they show signs of dehydration. Benzodiazepines can be given to treat seizures, hypertension, agitation or tachycardia.
If the body temperature exceeds 48 degrees Celsius, then the patient is sedated before being immersed in ice water in order to lower their body temperature rapidly. If the heart rate continues to remain high then it is treated with sodium bicarbonate and then lidocaine if there is no response.
The patient should be closely monitored until their vital signs return to normal.
