Treatment of cannabis overdose

 

A very high amount of cannabis must be consumed in order for a fatal overdose to occur (roughly 40,000 times the amount of THC required to make a person "high"). However, a temporary overdose called "Greening out" can occur for several hours.

 

 

Treatment includes:

 

• IV fluids for dehydration

• Benzodiazepines for anxiety

• Antihypertensives for high blood pressure

• B-blockers for tachycardia

 

The patient should be encouraged to rest and should remain under medical observation until vital signs have returned to normal.
