Treatment of benzodiazepine

overdose

When benzodiazepine is taken alone in overdose, it is unlikely to cause toxicity and tends to result in a deep sleep.

However if alcohol is also taken with the benzodiazepines, then the two work in synergy and can cause toxicity and respiratory depression. In this case, flumazenil, a benzodiazepine receptor antagonist, will need to be administered.
