Treatment of benzodiazepine abuse

 

Treatment for dependence usually includes giving advice about decreasing the frequency of use, substitution of the benzodiazepine with other anti-anxiety medication, optimization of the current use of the benzodiazepines and psychological support.

 

However, if withdrawal symptoms persist for the patient, they may have to remain on the benzodiazepines long term.
